#002: chaos, community and the in-betweens
Have you ever celebrated yourself for….just existing?
I haven’t published a post this month yet. Yes, feel free to come stone me—but before you do, just know: my excuses aren’t valid. They’re just that—excuses.
What’s been up? After 3 years, I finally moved out of my apartment. End of an era. Yes, you can sip some wine and party on my behalf 🍷. I love the new place. My cats—Dawn and Dusk—have kind of settled in too. I think?
What else? Nitya (my awesome colleague) and I have been working to keep Prompty docs fresh and updated. In the meantime, I’ve been busy with talks, panels, keynotes, breakouts, and even organized an event.
And yes, I also fell into the trap of watching reels and doomscrolling Twitter. It’s not looking good, bruv. Keep me in your prayers—in kindness and with pleading.
AI: community and things I hope to build 🤞
Okay okay, I know. Where’s the Agents breakdown you promised us? Will it help if I say I gave a talk on Agents? No? Alright, here’s a speaker deck to bribe you: https://speakerdeck.com/bethany/agents-with-prompty-and-azure-ai-foundry
Meanwhile, I’ve been up to a few cool things:
Took Alliance Girls students through a simplified machine learning walkthrough. ChatGPT was king in helping me explain and dust it off fast. (Yes, it’s a Colab link…sue me.)
Did a GenAIOps session at the Microsoft AI Tour – Kenya edition. Yes, AI Tour came home!
The very next day, I was back on stage at AgentCON, talking about Agents & Prompty.
Helped kick off the Data + AI Kenya Hackathon—running till April 11. Get the details here.
Wrapped up my GMI mentorship. And because I love mentorship so much, I started a new 1:1 mentorship. Events are fun and all, but I want more to my name, you know?
On the topic of building—I’ve been exploring tools: browser use, trying to understand what **MCP** is, and prototyping that Agent idea that’s been stuck in my head. I’ll be putting together a structure and calendar because—as they say—sharpen the axe before cutting the tree.
The In-Betweens
First off—I don’t remember the last time I used Pomodoro or Todoist. I need to shape up, right? 😅 I’m always reading—fiction, always. And a bunch of non-fiction in progress. So here’s what’s been giving me life:
Hobby: Still painting. Painted Dawn & Dusk. I love it.
Podcast episode: What Now? — Trevor Noah interviews Chimamanda, and they talk about Christina’s pregnancy—again! I love their honesty and randomness. Also, Chimamanda is exactly who she thinks she is.
Show: Abbott Elementary! The last episode was a doozy 😞
Fiction: The Love of My AfterLife by Kirsty Greenwood.
Non-fiction:
The Art of Danish Living by Meik Wiking, learning why the Danish are highly rated when it comes to happiness.
You Are a Badss at Making Money* by Jen Sincero → The perfect mix of happiness + wealth vibes.
Experiences:
Took a spontaneous Kikuyu–Zambezi–Kefri drive. That ends my spontaneity for the month 😂.
Did a trip to Mombasa. Rode a quad bike and a jet ski—both for the first time!
Crashed an Andela hangout to meet my former colleagues, fell so many times while ice skating, but lived to tell the tale.
Delivered a keynote at KCA University—feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
Sat on a panel at Chuka University—so worth it.
Yep, that’s it for the in-betweens. 💫
Beauty in the Mundane
My theme for the year is Beauty.
And one thing I’ve appreciated this month? Being present.
And realizing how the view of Ngong Hills pops up almost everywhere—quietly, unassumingly.
Thank you dear reader :-)
